Puppy Head Start includes:

• Basic training
• Socialization
• Puppy Problem solving

Puppy Head Start Begins Saturday January 16th @ 1:00pm!!!

Who can attend:
Any puppy between the ages of 8-18 weeks who has had their age appropriate vaccinations.

Class description:
This class is socialization with people and dogs. In small carefully selected groups we will let the puppies play with each other to learn gentle jaws and safe play. All family members are encouraged to come to puppy class and participate. A large part of this class is handling other dogs to ensure that our puppies grow up confident and without fear or aggression towards people. We will also practice some basic behaviors as sit, down, stand, no jumping, name response and impulse control.

Why is socialization important?

American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior states:

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior believes that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated. Because the first three months are the period when sociability outweighs fear, this is the primary window of opportunity for puppies to adapt to new people, animals, and experiences. Incomplete or improper socialization during this important time can increase the risk of behavioral problems later in life including fear, avoidance, and/or aggression. Behavioral problems are the number one cause of relinquishment to shelters. Behavioral issues, not infectious diseases, are the number one cause of death for dogs under three years of age.
